Today competitors had a little warm up of 6 km from the bivouac at Azougui, Mauretania, to the start of the special stage. The first 200 km led them away from the bivouac on a mixture of dunes, camel grass and unstable sand, which made it hard to ride and complicated to navigate. The second part of the 358 km was covered by tracks and stones over two dried lakes making it a matter of top speed right to the finish line at Atar, Mauretania. After a short liaison of 35 km they returned to the bivouac at Azougui, Mauretania.
