The first day in Africa started in Nador, Morocco with a short liaison of 66 km. The 1st special stage led the competitors from Hassi Berkane over 117 km to Msoun. Although it was like a warm up, as it contained a mixture of various terrains without any particular difficulties, it required good concentration and thorough navigation skills. After another 460 km of liaison they reached the bivouac at Jorf el Hamam.
